European Union Directive 35/2013 requires Employers to monitor, control and reduce the electromagnetic radiation that Employees are exposed to from IT equipment. It becomes effective in 2016. This can be accomplished by commissioning an EM Site Survey and Audit report following the audit methodology BS EN 50499 (Procedure for the assessment of workers exposed to EM fields). A number of companies in the UK have already undertaken such surveys and discovered that IT equipment, while meeting regulatory standards at manufacture stage, are deployed in a manner which exceeds the latest Public or Occupational exposure standards.
